Insurance agent licensing exams available online

The Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Ontario (FSRA) is continuing to work with those we regulate to ensure financial safety, fairness and choice for consumers and members during this time of rapid change and disruption.

To support insurance agent candidates during the COVID-19 pandemic, FSRA has approved online delivery of licensing exams and extended the validity period of Life Licence Qualification Program (LLQP) exam results for certain candidates.

What to know about online exams

The LLQP exam will be available online through Durham College beginning early July, and the Other Than Life (OTL) exam is now offered online through the Insurance Institute of Ontario. Visit the Durham College website or the Insurance Institute of Ontario website to learn more.

FSRA is proud to offer candidates this new way to write exams, which allows them to follow social distancing guidelines by eliminating the need to travel to a testing centre. Candidates will also have the flexibility to pick from more exam timeslots. To ensure exam integrity, robust security measures such as virtual proctoring and AI features will be in place.

The LLQP online exam will cost $66 per module, up from $27 for in-person exams, due to the technology costs of supervising the exam virtually.

Exam results valid for longer period

For candidates who have successfully completed all required LLQP modules, and who passed their first LLQP exam module (“first pass date”) between March 1 and December 31, 2019, FSRA will accept your Accident & Sickness Agent or Life Agent licence application up to December 31, 2020.
