Ontario credit unions and caisses populaires are regulated by the Credit Unions and Caisses Populaires Act, 1994. It sets out the Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Ontario's (FSRA’s) objectives, powers and duties, along with general terms for deposit insurance and other governing parameters.
Credit unions are also expected to adhere to periodically issued guidance notes that outline sound business and financial practices. At FSRA, we ensure compliance through our prudential regulation activities. [link to 2.4]
