With the rapid rise of ridesharing and carsharing services, here is what you need to know about insurance coverage in Ontario.

Ridesharing

FSRA has approved auto insurance products for the following ridesharing companies only:

RideON – policy provided by Northbridge General Insurance Corporation (new!)

Steer – policy provided by Northbridge General Insurance Corporation (new!)

Uber – policy provided by Economical Mutual Insurance Company

All drivers, passengers and vehicle owners are covered from the moment the app is turned on to the moment passengers exit the vehicle. When the app is turned off, the vehicle owner’s personal auto insurance policy applies. 

Carsharing

FSRA has approved auto insurance products for the following carsharing companies only. All participating drivers, passengers and vehicle owners in Ontario are covered during vehicle delivery and rental periods. Always review your company's policy to understand when it applies to you:
